Does she have long fingers? Short fingers? Wide fingers? Large knuckles? These are all things I can promise every girl has thought about at some point. And believe it or not, certain engagement rings will look better on her finger depending on its shape.

It's almost like trying on clothes. Women will shop for their bodies, finding ways to accentuate their figure. And the same can be said about finger shapes and engagement rings.

When it comes time to buy that perfect engagement ring for her, you'll want to consider her finger type before making your final decision. Trust us - she'll be wearing this ring for the rest of her life. You'll want to make sure it fits and "flatters" her the best it can.

Here are just a few pieces of advice for all different finger types out there:

1. Long fingers

Princess cut or round stones

A woman with long fingers has an advantage - a lot of engagement ring styles will look great on her fingers! One of our favorite looks with longer fingers is a classic round stone or popular princess cut diamond. These shapes are classic and extremely flattering. The shape of the stone won't make her finger look any shorter and will compliment her long fingers with timeless elegance.

Unique ring settings that have a lot of detail

Women with long fingers have the ability to wear unique rings with lots of detail without having these details overwhelm her hand. Longer fingers allow for more of a "canvas" to introduce unique features and shapes on the ring. This can easily overwhelm and look unflattering on shorter fingers.

2. Short fingers

Elongated diamond shapes

With shorter fingers, the trick is to create the illusion of longer fingers and choose a setting that will help to enhance the lines of her fingers. By choosing elongated diamond shapes like pear, marquise, and oval shaped diamonds, her fingers will appear longer.

Skinnier bands

Another trick to enhance the long lines of her fingers and prevent her fingers from appearing shorter is to choose a setting with a skinnier band. This way, it won't take up too much room on her finger and won't cut off those nice clean long lines that should be accentuated. A thicker band may create smaller proportions on her finger that make it appear even shorter.

3. Skinny fingers

Small center stones

The incredible advantage a woman has with skinnier fingers is that a small diamond will look bigger on her! This allows for you to focus less on getting the largest carat size and more on getting a more perfect diamond instead - maybe one that has a perfect cut or color. With women who have skinny fingers, small center stones look great on their hands and won't appear overwhelming.

Thin, delicate bands

Along with smaller center stones, women with skinny fingers also look great wearing rings that have thin, delicate bands. For the same reason, the thin design doesn't overwhelm her petite fingers. Thicker bands would look clunky on her fingers, something you definitely don't want!

4. Wide Fingers

Thicker bands

If she has wider fingers, a great trick is to find an engagement ring with a thicker band. That way, the band's volume will fill up more of her finger which works to actually slim the rest of the finger. By choosing a thicker band, you will be adding ring volume that goes vertically to compliment her wider fingers nicely.

Split shank rings

Split shank rings have bands that split at some point as they come to meet the center stone. This creates two different paths that take up more volume on her finger, similar to the thicker band effect. The split band will be a heavier look that works great with wide fingers to balance them out.

5. Large Knuckles

Three stone rings

Some women have larger knuckles that can make it difficult to pair with an engagement ring. One trick we recommend is to choose a three stone ring that'll add volume horizontally across her finger that'll match up with the width of her knuckles. This creates a more streamlined look that'll be very flattering on her hand.

Wider, heavier bands

Women with large knuckles can easily wear wider, heavier bands. The wider style will draw attention to the ring and will distract from her knuckles. It also will add volume to create the same streamlined effect that was previously mentioned.
