You can't stop staring at it. You want to show it off to the world. We get it. And what's the worst thing you could possibly imagine when it comes to your ring? The thought of losing it! These things happen, sadly more often than we would like to see. While you might want to wear your ring every second of every day, there are some precautionary steps you can take or places you can place your ring when you are doing things such as sleeping, traveling, or going to the gym. Not only are these situations a little risky, but you also want to be careful about where you place your ring if you choose to take it off. But there's no need to go overboard. There are plenty of small steps you can take to make sure that your ring is nice and safe. Here are 5 tips we've come up with to ensure that you never lose your engagement ring in the future: 1. Make sure your ring fits correctly One of the most effective ways for making sure you never lose your engagement ring is to make sure you get the right size. Believe it or not, it's actually one of the most common ways people lose their rings. It's okay if the initial ring size isn't correct, but make sure to go into a jeweler to get it properly sized as soon as you can after the proposal. Many jewelers will offer complimentary ring sizing, especially if it's the same store where the ring was originally purchased, so make sure to take advantage of this! A few helpful tips for getting the correct ring size: Try not to get it sized soon after waking up. Sometimes in the mornings our bodies tend to retain a lot of water, making your ring size larger than normal. The same advice can be said if you are overly hot or cold, which will make your ring size fluctuate. Our best advice is to go sometime mid-day and try to find a day where temperatures won't be too extreme. Also, re-sizing your ring isn't a one and done experience. If at any point in the future you feel like your ring is getting too tight or too loose, don't hesitate to go back to the jeweler to get it resized again. 2. Keep a ring holder by your bedside It's good to establish one spot in your home where you can place your ring if you need to take it off and leave it while you travel, shower, do yard work etc. A good place to do this is often in your bedroom where you can also take it off at night and put it back on first thing in the morning. There are a lot of different types of holders for engagement and wedding rings out there. Some are more elaborate and decorative while others are more practical. Take a look at some of the fun ring holders we found: Velvet Ring Boxes: via Etsy Glass Display Cases: via Etsy Framed Pin Cushions: via Etsy 3. Have a ring dish by your sink The dreaded sink. We've heard one too many horror stories of people losing their engagement rings while they were washing dish. If you are going to wash dishes, you'll want to consider having a ring holding dish by the sink while you do it. The soap used for washing dishes creates a slippery situation that could lead to your ring falling into the sink. To avoid any sort of disaster, dishes like the one pictured above can act as great ring holders so you never have to worry when doing the dishes. Plus, you'll know exactly where your ring is once you are done washing. 4. Attach your ring to a chain or key-ring with RingSafe via RingSafe Another way to keep your engagement ring safe is to keep it closeby during certain activities, without wearing it on your actual finger. We recently came across an interesting product called RingSafe. RingSafe is an accessory that secures your ring to a chain or key-ring with a small metal clip. This allows you to take your ring off and have it safely attach to something you can wear (a chain necklace) or something you can easily put in your pocket or bag (a key-ring). This is a great option for times where you still want your ring close and easily accessible, like the gym or beach, but you don't want to risk wearing it on your finger. The great part about it is the design is not too feminine or masculine, so it can be used for engagement rings and mens and womens wedding bands. Plus, the design of the clip is sturdy and flexible and can easily be tucked away under a shirt. 5. If you're ever unsure, don't wear it We know you want to show off your beautiful ring. But, if you're ever unsure about whether or not you should be wearing your engagement ring, it may be best to just leave it at home. Sometimes it's better to be safe rather than sorry when choosing when to wear your ring. The beach, travelling on vacation, or swimming are often situations people ask us about to see if they should wear their rings. While the chances of something happening are slim, we would hate for an unlucky situation to happen. Your ring means a lot to you, and losing it might not be worth the few hours or days you may need to go without it to make sure it's nice and safe!
