The game of golf has produced a legendary share of superstars. Fans of the sport are currently living in a golden age of athleticism with legends like Rory McIlroy playing alongside a new generation of elite players such as Joaquín Niemann, Sungjae Im and Garrick Higgo.
But golf is not just about individual athletes. At the Ryder Cup, the best golfers from around the globe compete as teams, coached by other legendary players.
Long’s is a big fan of the tradition of the golf, but the opportunity to see players supporting each other makes the Ryder Cup a must-watch event. As a family-run business serving Boston and New England, we see ourselves as part of our customer’s team. Another important member of this community is Rolex — the Worldwide Partner of The Ryder Cup. Just as the brand develops timepieces with unparalleled mechanisms, fine finishes and exemplary service, Rolex is an invaluable presence in golf, supporting players, professional tours and governing bodies.
As an Official Rolex Jeweler, we’re proud of our long standing partnership with the brand.
Rolex is Worldwide Partner of The Ryder Cup, the 44th edition of which takes place from 29 September to 1 October 2023 in Italy. Created in 1927, The Ryder Cup is one of the most watched sporting events in the world. Every two years, this team tournament pits Europe against the United States of America. It is contested alternately on each continent. The competition sees today’s best golfers –experienced players and young talent – go head-to-head, each team led by former champions acting as non-playing captains. The Ryder Cup reflects outstanding qualities: selflessness, solidarity and faith in the team. The matches, sometimes fierce, unfold with utmost respect between opponents. These encounters are also privileged moments of transmission between accomplished champions and younger elite golfers.Accompanying the European team since 1995, Rolex has also been Worldwide Partner of The Ryder Cup since 2021.
The unique concept of The Ryder Cup – three days of competition, pairs and singles match-ups, no prize money – creates a spirit of camaraderie and cooperation that transcends the usual rivalries of the professional circuit. The first two days are devoted to matches between pairs. From fourball matches (each player plays his own ball and only the best score counts) to foursome matches (teammates take turns to play the same ball), the pairs formed in each team compete in match-play format, seeking to win each hole by completing it in the fewest number of strokes. At the end of each contest, the duo who wins the most holes wins the match and a point for their team. Sunday is devoted to 12 singles matches, still in match play format. The first team to accumulate more than 14 points wins the coveted Samuel Ryder Trophy. In the event of a tie, the trophy is retained by the defending champion.
With more than 200,000 spectators present over the three days of competition and millions of television viewers around the world, The Ryder Cup is an exceptional event in the world of golf.
It unites players and fans in the passionate support of a team, creating an ambience unlike any other in golf. The clamour of the crowd pushes players to give their all for the good of the collective. In this spirit, during the 2018 edition in France, Rolex Testimonee Francesco Molinari made competition history by winning all five of his matches, four doubles and the singles. Before him, no European player had achieved such a feat.
Golf is more than a sport. It embodies values that make it an experience unlike any other. Precision, integrity, humility and respect. These are values that are also deeply rooted in Rolex’s identity. It is for this reason that, for almost 60 years, Rolex has supported golf. This long-standing commitment was initiated in 1967 with legendary champion Arnold Palmer, who was joined by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, known as The Big Three. It now extends to the leading institutions and events as well as the sport’s top players and younger talent.

The 92nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race that celebrates endurance and motor sport excellence, takes places on June 15 and 16, 2024. Rolex has been the Official Timepiece of this legendary event since 2001.
Published on October 02, 2023
Created in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is the oldest and one of the most prestigious car races in the world. A stern test of the reliability of the machines as well as the physical and mental stamina of the drivers, Le Mans attracts some of the greatest names in motor sport. On the 8.4-mile (13.6 kilometers) Circuit de la Sarthe in northwest France, some 62 cars, each with teams of three drivers, race against each other, divided into two Prototype and one GT Class. The winning team is the one which covers the greatest distance in 24 hours, some 3,293 miles (5,300 kilometers). Rolex has been the Official Timepiece of the race since 2001.
Since its inaugural edition, the mythical event has been an ideal testing ground for the many advances in motor sport technologies. The trialing of a new road surface in 1922 (still viable today), improvements to safety, engines and aerodynamics, as well as, since 2022, the requirement for all cars to run on 100 percent renewable biofuel, are among the notable developments marking a century of progress supported by this legendary endurance race. New automotive manufacturers contesting the top class in 2024 include Alpine, BMW and Lamborghini, emphasizing the importance and relevance of the event for the car industry.
Tom Kristensen has well and truly earned his nickname. The most successful driver in the legendary race’s history, he won it a record nine times, starting with his debut in 1997. A Rolex Testimonee since 2010, the Danish racing driver was FIA World Endurance champion in 2013. “You carry a win at Le Mans with you forever. I feel proud and humble reflecting on the race’s legacy and Rolex’s involvement with motor sport. Together they are the perfect combination; both striving for excellence through persistence, technical innovation and human endeavor.”
The winners of the top class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans receive an Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, specially engraved for the occasion. A legendary watch whose characteristic design has become iconic, the Cosmograph Daytona is emblematic of Rolex’s expertise. Equipped with a movement entirely designed and produced by the Rolex manufacture, it stands out by virtue of its chronometric precision as well as its unfailing reliability.
