Senior Buyer - Fine Jewelry | Burlington, MA

Long's Jewelers is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer for our Fine Jewelry department. This role ensures that the most sought-after products are represented in-store and online, creating a best-in-class assortment unparalleled in the greater Boston market. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Buying: Develop and execute merchandise assortment and sourcing strategies to gain market share and drive revenue. Drive seasonal strategies and financial plans and proactively partner across channels to ensure the success of individual sales and marketing campaigns.
  • Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with luxury vendors. Negotiate terms with vendors in the interest of Long’s business goals and strategies, securing favorable prices and exclusive products.
  • Store Collaboration: Act as a key liaison between store manager and corporate buying team to ensure product assortment is aligned with store needs by gathering feedback and visiting locations on a monthly basis.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze market trends and competitor offerings to make informed buying decisions. Identify opportunities and recommend new products, vendors, and concepts for the department. Regularly visit Long’s stores and shop the competition to gain critical insights into customer preferences and identify product opportunities.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels, minimizing overstock and stockouts. Forecast and manage sales, margin, inventory receipt plans, and turn to inform current and future business opportunities.
  • Sales and Margin Goals: Work towards achieving sales and margin goals by selecting products that drive revenue and profitability.
  • Purchase Order Management: Oversee the creation and management of purchase orders, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of products.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all products meet our high-quality standards and align with customer expectations.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Update weekly/monthly business summaries to report on the status of business, including recommended responses to trends.
  • Travel: Travel 10-15% for trade shows, vendor meetings, and store visits.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 - 5+ years of fine jewelry buying experience.
  • Strong knowledge of luxury vendor relationships.
  • Expertise in fashion trends and technical jewelry knowledge of diamonds, fine color, and fashion jewelry.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills desired.
  • GIA Diploma and/or AGS certification preferred.
  • Proven experience managing numerous and diverse vendor relationships.
  • First-rate merchant acumen with a sound understanding of Microsoft Excel and other planning tools.
  • Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Flexibility and agility to quickly understand, assess, and problem solve.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to always represent Long’s in the utmost professional manner.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently.

  • Perform channel and platinum rebuilds.
  • Perform minor ring repair and other jewelry repairs, including chain and clasp repairs.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work with all metals, including 14k, 18k, platinum and sterling silver.
  • Master level skillset with torch. Prefer some laser experience.
  • Ability to complete 15 – 20 repairs daily, in addition to the shared maintenance and general upkeep of the shop.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to use sound judgment to arrive at the best outcome based on the information at hand.
  • Ability to interact with external and internal customers.

Content Coordinator - Burlington, MA

Long’s is a family-owned and operated full-service jeweler with six stores throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire, including the Rolex boutique and Patek Philippe showroom on Newbury St. We are seeking a creative, professional and self-starting individual to join our growing Marketing & eCommerce team in this supportive role. As Content Coordinator, your job will be to aid the creation of visual stories for multiple channels – both traditional and emerging – that engage, inform and above all inspire. This individual will be challenged with staying true to our brand of nearly 150 years while simultaneously pushing to elevate and evolve our visual DNA. Essential Job Functions & Core Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of fresh, best-in-class content that speaks to our luxury clientele, with a focus on owned channels (social media, email, eCommerce)
  • Work closely with channel leaders to bring stories to life, helping to concept, brief in, and distribute assets
  • Pitch email and social media content ideas, and recommend ways in which Long’s might participate

Watchmaker - Burlington, MA

Due to growth, Long’s Jewelers is seeking an experienced watchmaker to support our thriving luxury timepiece business. This role demands advanced technical expertise, including brand, model, movement, and material identification. The ideal candidate will embody a passion for watches backed by expert knowledge of watch service and repair. This role is based in our Burlington, MA corporate office.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine brand authenticity and condition, both external and functional performance, of timepieces.
  • Accurately diagnose and perform quality service and repair of basic to moderate complexity on customer-owned merchandise, with the aim of improving overall condition, function, and timing accuracy on both quartz and mechanical watches.
  • Identify and requisition parts for repairs.
  • Handle all necessary documentation and recordkeeping of service and repairs according to Long’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient workspace and ensure proper use and maintenance of work tools.
  • Communicate proactively with department leaders with regards to progress on various projects and overall scope of pending work.
  • Participate in trainings, audits, and meetings as required, including travel when applicable.
  • Assist other watchmakers to authenticate and resolve complex repairs.

Qualifications:

  • 3 – 5 years + Advanced technical watchmaking expertise, including brand, model, movement, and material identification.
  • Familiar with both Swiss and Japanese movements.
  • Demonstrated experience in repairing and servicing luxury watches, with skills including but not limited to: quartz/mechanical movements, chronographs, perpetual calendars, and lathe work.
  • Proficient with case disassembly/reassembly of quartz, mechanical, and chronograph watches.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple service projects at the same time. Prioritization is key.
  • Must possess excellent hand and eye coordination, and the ability to perform fine motor skills.
  • Extremely accurate vision, natural or corrected.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and anticipate organizational needs, including the ability to meet deadlines and successfully complete projects.

Luxury Watch Tech - Burlington, MA

Long’s Jewelers is seeking a Luxury Watch Tech to assist with the repair and maintenance of luxury timepieces.  This is a great chance to join our dynamic team of watch professionals, working with the finest watch brands in the world.  If you are passionate about horology and enjoy working with your hands, this could be the job for you!  

Essential Job Functions / Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct servicing and maintenance of watches, primarily by disassembling, repairing, and reassembling components.
  • Diagnose watch defects, testing and replacing parts and batteries as necessary.
  • Determine causes of watch malfunctions, such as defects in parts or incorrect adjustment.
  • Provide customer service and assist the store team with client needs such as sizing bracelets, engraving, suggesting improvements and answering questions.
  • Perform oiling, polishing, and buffing to restore watches to their original condition for the Estate department.
  • Maintain tools, workplace, and inventory in an organized, safe manner.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining repair records.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 1 year of Technical School training or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of watch service and repair operations a plus. Long’s is willing to train the right candidate.
  • General understanding of and/or a true passion for horology and luxury timepieces.
  • Ability to work under pressure achieving a high level of accuracy and keen attention to detail.
  • Analytic approach to problem solving with a high drive for excellence.
